Missoni teams up with Palm Angels for collaborative collection
/Luxury brand Missoni, known for its colourful patterns and knitwear, has fallen for the aesthetics of chic, cool urban label Palm Angels, merging the styles for a co-ed collection, Palm Angels x Missoni.
For the collaborative collection, Francesco Ragazzi, who launched California-inspired brand Palm Angels in 2015 after spending over a decade managing Moncler’s image as creative director, delved into the archives of the historic Italian fashion house.
The result is a 150-piece collection including tracksuits and zipped cardigans featuring the iconic Missoni zip-zag and stripe patterns as well as both monochrome and multicoloured hoodies, T-shirts, body-con dresses, tops, skirts, and baggy trousers, available in warm toned hues and with a jungle-inspired aesthetic. Accessories including bucket hats, sneakers, sandals, and bags complete the look.
“Palm Angels x Missoni is Missoni boosted by the accelerating force of the urban spirit, with the feel of an unban safari,” said Missoni in a press release. The luxury brand also highlighted how, “throughout the collection, Missoni’s signature iconography comes across as sharp, transforming into an urban melody made up of many parts coming together. It is a bit like an anomaly giving birth to something completely new.”
The collection will be sold from June 30 in both brand’s stores and on their respective e-commerce stores. It will also retail in around 60 department stores and multi-brand boutiques across the world.
“Missoni represents an authentic reference point for Italian design and for artisanal know-how,” said Francesco Ragazzi, who worked alongside Missoni’s Angela Missoni on the project, in a press release. “With this collaboration, we would like to present a different point of view; my point of view on the heritage of Missoni. It is a fusion of the DNA of both brands, with a relaxed, urban spirit.”
This collaboration enables Missoni to breathe new life into its image and enables Palm Angels to link up with the world of luxury fashion. It also comes at a time when both brands are in full swing.
In May this year, Angela Missoni took the decision to step down from managing the creative direction of her brand, while keeping her role as president of the business. The company also recently entrusted its distribution in Italy, France, the Benelux Union (Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg), Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Russia to Brama Group. The Italian showroom specialises in the contemporary segment of the fashion market and will begin its work with Missoni starting from the spring/ summer 2022 sales campaign.
In addition, Missoni recently announced that it has signed an agreement with the Milan-based start-up Acbc, which designs and produces eco-friendly footwear, to create its first ever line of sustainable sneakers. At the same time, in mid-June the brand launched a swim- and beach wear collection in collaboration with German online retailer Mytheresa.
For its part, last week Palm Angels announced the launch of a children’s wear collection for boys and girls aged four to 12. In May, the brand launched its first eyewear collection then, in early June, launched a capsule collection of swimwear with Vilebrequin, while it readies the opening of a store in Miami, US.
