ANKARA SWIM: AFRICA MEETS THE RUNWAY SHOWCASE

Each July, the City of Miami welcomes international and local swimwear brands from all over the world to showcase never before seen collections to an audience of retail buyers, media, and consumers. As “arguably the most eye-catching presentation,” according to ESSENCE.com, Miami Swim Week will get yet another diverse “splash of African flair” including more bold and colorful prints, textured hair, and beautiful ethnic models.

 

During Ankara SWIM, designers will showcase African print and culturally-inspired swimwear and summer apparel for both men and women. Feature runway designers will represent Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Jamaica, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti, and USA. Apparel: Aleena Swim, Fabian & Mom, Jama Collections, ÖFUURË by Tehilah, RuvaAfricWear, Shahedah Textiles, and Tresor Luxx Collections.  Accessories: Ankara Delights and Sankofa's Child.

 

Since its establishment in 2011, Ankara Miami, Inc., has successfully produced Florida’s largest fashion events featuring emerging and established designers from Africa and throughout the African Diaspora. Last year, the South Florida based special events company introduced the annual summer showcase, Ankara SWIM, after a highly anticipated expansion to becoming Florida’s official African Fashion Week in 2015.

Ankara SWIM, hosted by BET’s ComicView alum, Marcellus “Chello” Davis and Ugandan beauty, Adoch, is sponsored in part by Miss Jessie’s, MD Simmons Productions, Harmless Harvest Coconut Water, and returning partners, Natural Trendsetters – South Florida’s first natural hair care center with clientele such as Wale and Venus & Serena Williams.
